Fold3-specific things to know

Fold3's connection to Ancestry and its specialized military records create some unique considerations for cancellation.

Check your Ancestry account too
If you have both Ancestry and Fold3, make sure you're cancelling the right subscription. They're separate services with different billing.
Military records stay accessible
Many military records Fold3 hosts are also available through free government databases like NARA or FamilySearch.
Access continues until billing period ends
You can still search and view records until your current billing period expires, even after cancelling.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These details can help you avoid issues and make sure your cancellation goes through properly.

1. Check who's actually billing you

Look at your credit card or bank statement to see if the charge is from Fold3, Ancestry, or another service. Cancel through the right account.

2. Download any research you want to keep

Save important documents, family trees, or research notes before your access ends. You won't be able to retrieve them after cancellation.

3. Note your subscription renewal date

Cancelling stops future billing but doesn't end your current access period. You can use Fold3 until your billing cycle ends.

Consider these alternatives

If cost is the main issue, these options might work better than cancelling your research access completely.

Switch Your Billing Cycle

Switch to annual billing to save money

Annual plans typically offer 2-3 months free compared to monthly billing.

Check for Bundles

Check if bundling with Ancestry saves money overall

  • Ancestry + Fold3 bundle packages

  • All Access membership options

If you can't cancel directly

Don't see a cancel option in your Fold3 account? Your subscription might be billed through one of these providers instead.

Phone

If you can't find the cancel option online, Fold3 customer service can help you cancel over the phone.
