Quicken-specific things to know

Quicken subscriptions work differently depending on your purchase method and version. These tips help avoid common issues.

Check your purchase method first
If you bought Quicken from a retail store or through a partner, online cancellation may not be available - you'll need to call customer support instead.
Subscription vs one-time purchase
Older Quicken versions were one-time purchases that don't auto-renew. Only newer subscription plans need active cancellation to stop billing.
Data backup before cancelling
Your financial data stays in the software, but online features like bank syncing stop working. Export or backup important data first.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These details can help you avoid issues with your Quicken cancellation.

1. Access continues until renewal date

Even after cancelling, you can use Quicken until your current subscription period ends. The software doesn't immediately stop working.

2. Some features require active subscription

Online banking sync, mobile app access, and customer support require an active subscription. Basic desktop features may still work after cancellation.

3. Check for annual vs monthly billing

Annual subscribers save money but need to cancel before the yearly renewal. Monthly subscribers have more flexibility with timing.

Other options to consider

If cost is the main concern, you might be able to downgrade or switch billing cycles instead of cancelling completely.

Downgrade your Quicken plan

Quicken offers different tiers with varying features. You might be able to switch to a cheaper plan that still meets your needs.

  • Quicken Starter ($2.99/month) - Basic budgeting

  • Quicken Deluxe ($4.99/month) - Full personal finance

  • Quicken Premier ($7.49/month) - Investment tracking

  • Quicken Home & Business ($9.99/month) - Business features

Negotiate a Deal

Customer support may offer discounts or promotional rates to retain subscribers. It's worth asking if you're considering cancelling due to price.

If you don't see a cancel option in your account or purchased through a third party, you may need to use one of these methods.
