GitHub Copilot cancellation tips

A few things that might affect your GitHub Copilot cancellation process.

Access continues until period ends
You'll keep GitHub Copilot access until your current billing cycle ends, even after cancelling immediately.
Separate from GitHub Pro billing
GitHub Copilot appears as its own line item in billing, separate from any GitHub Pro or Team subscriptions you might have.
Business accounts work differently
If your Copilot is provided through a GitHub Business account, you'll need to contact your organization's administrator to cancel.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These details can affect your cancellation timing or whether it goes through properly.

1. Check who's paying for it

Make sure you're the one being billed for GitHub Copilot. If it's through your employer or organization, you won't see a cancel option in your personal settings.

2. Consider the learning curve

GitHub Copilot becomes more helpful as it learns your coding patterns. If you haven't used it much, you might want to try it for a full billing cycle first.

3. Free alternatives exist

Many modern IDEs now include AI-powered code completion features. Check if your editor has built-in alternatives before paying for Copilot.

Other options to consider

If cost is the main concern, you might want to consider pausing your subscription or switching to annual billing for savings.

Switch Your Billing Cycle

GitHub Copilot offers annual billing at a discount compared to monthly payments.

Save about 16% with annual billing ($100/year vs $120 for 12 monthly payments)
